About My Site

Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit devoted to build, renovate or restore homes with the goal of combating homelessness and making housing more affordable. Founded in 1976, Habitat for Humanity has constructed or renovated over 800,000 houses, which makes it the largest international building nonprofit.

Too many families within Arizona and the rest of the world do not have access to affordable housing, which is concerning considering the link between housing and quality of life. Studies have shown that children are more likely to succeed educationally with a stable housing situation, and are likely to be happier. Not only this, but crime rates tend to decrease when homes are renovated and housing values tend to stabilize.

Working towards these goals, the Central Arizona affiliate was founded in 1985 and has become one of the most active chapters, building or repairing over 1000 homes in Maricopa and Pinal County. The families pay for the houses through no-profit loans and sweat equity, working alongside the volunteers during construction. The Arizona chapter coordinates with many other groups and individuals to fund raise and build, seeking to provide environmentally sustainable and energy efficient housing and working for "a world where everyone has a decent place to live".

  3. Sarah, your project seem like it could help a lot of people especially the youth. I hope you accomplish your goals with helping others through Habitat for Humanity and your outreach program. How involved is the chapter for Arizona going to be with your project. I cannot wait to see what you achieve.
